Court Sends Fosston-Essentia Hospital Dispute to Arbitration

A Minnesota state court has ordered the city of Fosston and Duluth-based Essentia Health to settle their fight over control of Fosston Hospital through arbitration. The Polk County District Court issued the order June 23, according to Becker's Hospital Review.

At issue is a 2009 affiliation agreement that gives Essentia operational control of the hospital. The city wants to terminate that deal, and an arbitrator, rather than a judge, will now decide whether it can. The ruling keeps the dispute out of open court and moves it into a private process governed by the contract's own terms.
