Hackensack Meridian First in Northeast to Offer Pixclara

Edison, N.J.-based Hackensack Meridian Health has become the first hospital network in the Northeast U.S. to administer Pixclara, an FDA-approved PET imaging drug used to help assess brain cancer, according to Becker's Hospital Review. The system is offering the drug at Hackensack Meridian Hoboken Imaging Services in Hoboken, N.J., per an Oct. 30 news release.

Pixclara is a radioactive tracer injected before a PET scan to help physicians evaluate brain tumors with greater precision. For patients, that can mean clearer answers about tumor activity and treatment response, information that standard imaging does not always provide.

The move reflects a broader push among health systems to adopt specialized PET tracers that sharpen cancer diagnosis and monitoring. Being first in a region to offer a newly approved imaging agent is also a competitive signal: it lets a system market advanced diagnostic capabilities to referring physicians and patients, and positions it ahead of rivals adopting the same technology later.
