8 Hospital Projects Top $1B Each in 2026, Mostly in the South
Health systems are pouring capital into bricks and mortar in 2026. Becker's Hospital Review reports it has tracked eight systems that announced, advanced, or finalized hospital projects worth $1 billion or more so far this year.
The spending is heavily regional. Five of the eight projects are new hospitals or patient towers in the South, spanning Texas, Georgia, Florida and the Carolinas, according to Becker's. That concentration tracks with population growth and migration into Sun Belt states, where systems are racing to add inpatient capacity ahead of demand.
For operators and investors, the wave signals confidence in volume recovery and a bet that capacity, not just cost-cutting, drives long-term position. But billion-dollar builds also lock in fixed costs and debt at a time of tight margins and high construction prices. Becker's says the running tally, first published June 12, will be updated as more projects are announced through the year.
