Kearney Regional in Nebraska Promotes Danny Van Ranken to CEO
Kearney (Neb.) Regional Medical Center has named Danny Van Ranken as its new CEO, according to a Sept. 2 hospital news release shared with Becker's Hospital Review.
Van Ranken's path is a case study in internal promotion. He joined Kearney Regional in 2014 as the hospital's first respiratory therapy manager, became director of procedural services and corporate compliance officer in 2019, and later moved into a vice president role overseeing clinical operations. His ascent to the top job gives the medical center a leader steeped in both frontline clinical work and compliance.
The appointment fits a broader pattern at community and regional hospitals, which increasingly elevate insiders who know local operations, staff, and payer dynamics rather than recruiting outside executives. For a smaller facility, continuity at the top can steady staffing, vendor relationships, and strategic direction during a period of tight hospital margins and workforce pressure.
